Oprah has been out promoting Lee Daniels’ “The Butler” and she recounted a recent incident in which a clerk at an upscale store, Trois Pommes denied showing her a $40,000 bag while in Zurich for Tina Turner’s wedding. “I go into a store and I say to the woman, ‘Excuse me, could I see the bag right above your head?’ and she says to me, ‘No. It’s too expensive.’” The clerk attempted to show her less expensive bags. “I left the store but it proves that racism is still an issue.I could have had the big blow up thing and thrown down the black card but why do that.”
A spokesperson for the Swiss tourism office told the AP, “We are very sorry for what happened to her, of course, because we think all of our guests and clients should be treated respectfully, in a professional way.” The shops owner claims it was all a ‘misunderstanding.’
