Joan Rivers untimely death may have come at the hands of an unplanned biopsy after another doctor with Rivers’ entourage noticed ‘something’ on the late comedian’s vocal chords at the time. Rivers had planned a routine endoscopy, but the unplanned biopsy is not the type of procedure that should have been performed in a clinic but at a hospital, a medical source told the NY Daily News.
The biopsy, performed at Yorkville Endoscopy in NYC which only specializes in digestive issues, caused Rivers’ vocal chords to seize and cut off her air supply, a condition called, laryngospasm. The source added, “If she had been in a hospital when it happened, she might have been okay.”
The doctor who performed the procedure was not even employed with Yorkville, but allegedly came with Rivers and asked to use the clinic equipment to check the vocal chords of the late star. “He asked and they let him,” the source said. “A huge no-no.”
