‘A Dog’s Purpose’ star Josh Gad is shaken and upset after a video of a dog being forced into into a pool during the filming of a scene. The dog appears to be in distress as the handler attempts to get the German Shepard in a rough pool of water for a scene. Josh Gad, the voice of the character in the movie was upset by what he saw!
Gad took to Twitter to show his disapproval, “I signed on for a film that truly stands out as one of the most beautiful love letters to animals I have ever seen. Today, however, I saw a disturbing video that appears to show a scared German Shepherd being forced to perform a stunt on the set of this film. While I do not know all the details and cannot speak to the level of care and caution that went into this moment (as I was never on set for the making of this film), I am shaken and sad to see any animal put in a situation against its will. As a proud dog owner and a fervent supporter of organizations like PETA, I have reached out to the production team and studio to ask for an explanation.”
PETA has called for a boycott of the film. We really hope the dog was not injured or distressed by the incident. Amblin Partners and Universal Pictures told TMZ in a statement, “Fostering a safe environment and ensuring the ethical treatment of our animal actors was of the utmost importance to those involved in making this film and we will look into the circumstances surrounding this video.”
“American Humane has reviewed the video and we are disturbed and concerned by the footage,” the AHA told People in a statement. “When the dog showed signs of resistance to jumping in the water, the scene should have been stopped. We are placing the safety representative who was on the set on administrative leave immediately and are bringing in an independent third party to conduct an investigation into this matter.”
