BMX legend Dave Mirra died of an apparent suicide on Thursday. According to officials the married, father of two was found with a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head in his truck in Greenville, North Carolina.
Now officials are looking into possible connection to CTE. CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy) has been more closely linked to football players with head injuries, but is not exclusive to just football. Mayor of Greenville, NC Allen Thomas says officials are looking into Mirra’s past as a BMX rider and any head trauma from the extreme sport.
This is very sad…he was just 41. Friend TJ Lavin is distraught telling TMZ, “I just wish he would have called me. I would have jumped on a plane in a second. There’s always another way. If anyone needs help, just please get it. I feel sick about this.”
