Just yesterday Roger Ebert announced he would be stepping down as his cancer has returned, but sadly the longtime movie critic has passed away at 70. The Chicago Sun-Times, Ebert’s employer revealed he died Thursday. “It really stinks that the cancer has returned and that I have spent too many days in the hospital.So on bad days I may write about the vulnerability that accompanies illness. On good days, I may wax ecstatic about a movie so good it transports me beyond illness,” wrote on his website.Ebert had struggled with cancer, having several surgeries to remove a malignant tumor on his thyroid gland (and on his lymph nodes in his neck) and on his salivary gland. he later lost part of his jaw, making him unable to speak or eat.
Ebert is survived by his wife, Chaz Hammelsmith.
