Maria Sharapova Launches Sugarpova Accessories at Henri Bendel in New York City on August 20, 2013

Maria Sharapova will not change her name to Sugarpova…a publicity stunt to promote her new candy line, Sugarpova Accessories. Sharapova opted to nix the idea of changing her name just in time for the US Open. Her agent, Max Eisenbud, told ESPN “we ultimately decided against it. Maria has pushed her team to do fun, out-of-the-box-type things to get the word out about Sugarpova. In Miami, we’re going to fill a glass truck full of candy and drive it around town. This was an idea that fell along those lines. But, at the end of the day, we would have to change all her identification, she has to travel to Japan and China right after the tournament and it was going to be very difficult.”
It’s way to much paperwork and red tape to promote a new candy line, seems a bit much…good thing she opted against it.
