59th GRAMMY Awards - Arrivals

Rihanna made it all the way to Harvard today to accept a very humbling award! Who knew Rihanna was so charitable—but she is!!! Rihanna took center stage as she accepted the Harvard Foundation’s Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award for 2017. “So I made it to Harvard,” Rihanna joked as she started her speech. “Never thought I’d be able to say that in my life, but it feels good.”

“I’m incredibly humbled to be acknowledged at this magnitude for something that, in truth, I never wanted thanking for.” Rihanna ended her speech with a small request. “All you need to do is help one person, expecting nothing in return. To me, that is a humanitarian. What that little girl watching those commercials didn’t know is that you don’t have to be rich to be a humanitarian, you don’t have to be rich to help somebody. You don’t have to be famous, you don’t even have to be college educated. But it starts with your neighbor… you just do whatever you can to help in any way that you can.”

Rihanna’s charity work includes:

  1.  Modernization of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s facility for treating breast cancer
  2. Worldwide ambassador for the Global Partnership for Education and the Global Citizen Project
  3. Clara Lionel Foundation Scholarship Program which helps Caribbean students attending universities in the U.S.
  4. UNICEF, H&M, and Mac Cosmetics
