"Star Trek Into Darkness" Los Angeles Premiere - Arrivals

Star Trek star Leonard Nimoy has died at the age of 83 at his Bel Air home in Los Angeles . The original Mr. Spock star announced last year that he was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as a result from years of smoking. His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy confirmed his death to the New York Times.

Nimoy was not just an actor, but dabbled in poetry, photography and music. Star Trek premiered on NBC on Sept. 8, 1966 and catapulted Nimoy and William Shatner stars. Nimoy made a cameo in the recent J.J. Abrams Star Trek movies, playing the older version of Spock (Zachary Quinto plays a younger Spock).
