“I’m melting…MELTING” is not what you want to hear after you spent that last 30-45 minutes doing your makeup only to have it melt the minute you step out the door on a 90 plus degree day. We all have those moments in which we NEED to sweatproof your makeup
I remember going to a concert at Madison Square Garden eons ago ( I think Lady Gaga) and it was super hot and sweaty and of course I needed to take the subway. Sometimes the subway cars have AC, but the platforms do not so imagine how smudged my green eyeshadow was after waiting for my two trains. Uhh yes and I had no idea about setting sprays back then. Waterproof eyeliner…yes, but not much anything else. Since then I’ve learned a slew of tips and tricks to make your summertime makeup last.
The summer heat is no joke for makeup looks that melt away from perspiration. But some makeup products have been built to sustain such wear and tear. And we’re all here for that. Sure who wouldn’t love makeup that just stays put, but sweaty hot days wouldn’t let it be that easy.
So whether you are heading to a pool party, working out, traveling, or just getting ready for the day during the summer heat we have you covered and its all super affordable!!
Start with Clean Skin For Sweatproof Makeup
For sweatproof makeup it’s always good to start with clean skin when preparing for makeup. So of course that should be any time of the year, but during the summer it’s essential. We suggest picking up a micellar water. Obviously your favorite face wash can be used too, but we love micellar water because not only does it clean, but it also hydrates the skin. And now your canvas is ready.
Add a Oil Free & Water Based SPF
Next up to sweatproof makeup is one of the most important layers of defense from the sun of course. Obviously we need a good, yet light SPF. Nothing that is going to add a white cast on the skin. Trying something that is water based and doesn’t create an oil slick on your face is a winner in our minds. Leave those heavier SPFs for winter.
Try: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel SPF 15
Take Primers for a Test Drive
Primers are great for making your skin appear super smooth but also fills in fine lines and wrinkles. Primers also keep your makeup from getting into pores and causing more breakouts. Make sure to apply the primer to your T zone to keep our oiliest skin zones at bay. Side note: Primers also grab your makeup to the skin to keep it in place.
TRY: NYX Angel Veil
Look for longwear and waterproof makeup for sweatproof makeup
Longwear and sweatproof makeup will be what gets you through those long hot days despite a little sweat. Longwearing foundation, mascara and eyeliner are just a few basics that have long lasting formulas (concealers, blushes and contour colors also have waterproof formulas).
For your foundation look for a satin/matte formula that will not add to the shine or oil you might get later in the day.
TRY: Maybelline SuperStay Full Coverage Foundation.
Technically it’s not waterproof but its long lasting for up to 24 hour
or L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24 Hour Fresh Wear Foundation, Lightweight. Which is a waterproof, transfer-resistant, and sweat-resistant foundation.
Mascara Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal Waterproof Mascara
Eyeliner Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner
Or opt for a tinted moisturizer & concealer
Sometimes less is more and you might just want to skip your favorite cream foundations and opt for something much lighter like a tinted moisturizer for sweatproof makeup. The moisturizer will cover some imperfections without being full coverage. And the lighter texture will be a little more airy on your skin. You can also spot treat any blemishes that need coverage.
TRY: Neutrogena Protect + Tint Tinted Moisturizer

Apply eyeshadow with a wet brush
Applying your shadow with a wet brush will extend the color deposit of your shadow. Of course you can add an eyeshadow primer to make sure your shadow doesn’t budge—if you need to wear eyeshadow. Or use a cream eyeshadow

Smudge Proof Your Brows For the Ultimate Sweatproof Makeup Application
Eyebrows are probably my most favorite makeup step. You can do them up for glam looks and down for more casual looks. Leave powders behind for the summer and use a wax pencil instead. I like to set my brows with a tinted gel.

Maybelline Total Temptation Eyebrow Definer Pencil
Go for a lip stain (and liquid blush)
We love a good lip stain which is perfect for summer. It’s lighter and lasts a long time. Since it’s more of a sheer pigment the stain will look more like a hint of color versus a heavier lipstick would.
TRY: L’Oréal Paris Infallible Lip Paint
Sweatproof Makeup Secret: Begin and End with a Setting Spray
A good setting spray is going to make sure your makeup stays put and does not slide everywhere on your face while you are at the pool party ( only if you can social distance of course). So here’s the big secret—try spraying your face before starting your makeup and then again when you are done with your makeup. This step should seal the makeup for hours and hours to come!
