Not only did people not like the Lifetime movie, Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, it was universally panned by critics. First of all longtime Aaliyah producer, Timbaland took to his Instagram page and panned the movie and then went on to meme the entire situation in a serious of posts questioning the movie, the writing, the facts and lastly the casting! he even attacked Wendy Williams, the executive producer of the movie.
The hashtags #LifetimeDisrespectsAaliyah” and “#LifetimeBeLike,” ran rampant on social media. At one point fans were critical that the movie romanticized the relationship with a 15 year old Aaliyah and her one time husband R. Kelly who was 25 at the time of the marriage.
But Tim was not alone. EVERYONE was upset over the movie. Aaliyah’s family did not give music rights to Lifetime to use her movie, not did production speak to the family.
Poor Alexandra Shipp took a bring brunt of the negative reviews.
Did you watch, what did you think?
