Chelsea Handler’s Chelsea Lately will be getting an upgrade this year…with a new studio, Conan O’Brien’s old home. The new studio will get a new resign but will still have elements of her current floorplan and format!
“Chelsea Lately†is getting a new home — Conan O’Brien’s brief, former “Tonight Show†studio on the Universal lot.
“Chelsea Lately†host Chelsea Handler announced the news during an E! luncheon at the Television Critics Association Winter Session on Saturday in Pasadena, but didn’t mention Conan by name. Instead, she said the locale – Studio One – on the Universal Lot was “Jack Benny’s old studio.â€
While making the rounds at lunchtime, Chelsea told AccessHollywood.com, her team is planning a redesign.
“We’re gonna redesign everything,†Chelsea said, in response to Access’ question, noting her facility will keep some motifs from her current “Chelsea Lately†look. “I mean it’s gonna be similar to what’s on TV.â€
The studio won’t get a complete renovation, the late night host clarified.
“We really haven’t event looked at a floor plan or anything,†she said. “Obviously I don’t want to completely change it. You want to keep the essence of what it is, but it’s really exciting. It’s a really great way to get excited about the next couple of years at E!â€
The move to a bigger studio – which a “Chelsea†staffer said they expect to happen in the fall –means a larger late night audience, something Chelsea is looking forward to in the coming months.
“I haven’t been there yet, but my partner and a bunch of my colleagues have. It’s just gonna be a great new platform for us because… we’ll have a bigger audience,†she said. “Everyone will have their own bathroom [and an individual one] for [each of the] the guests… instead of Jennifer Aniston having to share with Brad Wollack.â€
Chelsea’s pal Jennifer is actually heading to the comedian’s “After Lately†show on January 29 in a big episode on E!, also featuring Jay Leno and Jane Fonda, the “After Lately†cast revealed on Saturday. Additionally, it was confirmed that Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon will appear on the post-late night show on January 22.
