Jena Malone Added To ‘Hunger Games’ Cast!

Jena Malone has now been added to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire cast as ‘Johanna Mason.’ Malone will be playing a a victor from a previous Hunger games, but she is psychologically scarred from her time in the arena. Catching Fire will begin shooting in the fall.

It’s official — after months of rumors, Lionsgate has just announced that actress Jena Malone will be playing Johanna Mason in Catching Fire, the highly anticipated next installment of The Hunger Games franchise.

The Mason character is a young female victor from a past Hunger Games, a District 7 survivor who’s proficient with axes, but remains deeply psychologically scarred from her time in the Games.

Malone is no stranger to both drama and tough action scenes — along with indies Donnie Darko and Into the Wild, she recently starred in Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch.

Malone will join newly confirmed cast members Philip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch Heavensbee) and Amanda Plummer (Wiress).

Catching Fire, directed by Francis Lawrence, is set to start shooting in the fall and will hit theaters November 22, 2013.
