The new Miss America Nina Davuluri had to address racist tweets after taking the crown last night. Davuluri, Miss New York won Sunday night and had to deal with the onslaught of racist tweets that poured in on Twitter over her Indian heritage. At the post-show press conference, “I’m so happy this organization has embraced diversity. I’m thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America.” She added, “I have to rise above that. I always viewed myself as first and foremost American.”
The harsh tweets tweets called the newly crowned Miss America, an Arab, “Miss 7-11,” “Miss Terrorist,” and “Miss Al-Qaeda.”
Miss America Nina Davuluri recently came under fire for allegedly calling a Miss America Mallory Hagan ‘fat,’ which she denies.
