Phillip Phillips took the American Idol crown last night and called his win ‘unreal/’ He was always nonchalant about the competition staying humble and quiet throughout the weeks. People voted in droves to the tune of…132 million votes, wow!
“I don’t really feel anything. Its crazy I’m still a little numb from the whole situation it’s just so unreal. Did I think I was gonna win? Heck no. It’s so unreal. It hasn’t sunk in yet. It’s such a blessing to have, I’m kinda ready to try and comprehend it all. After I won, I wasn’t thinking about anything. I wasn’t thinking about the song, I wasn’t wanting to sing or anything. I just started thinking about the journey and how far all of us have come and how far we made it, it’s so overwhelming. Jessica has a huge future ahead of her and we’re both supportive of each other. I love playing music and I’m just a lucky guy.”
Phillip’s parents, Phillip Sr and Sheryl Phillips, discussed his kidney problem and performing through the pain.
“He’s doing good right now, but it’s been a long hard struggle for him,” his father Phillip Phillips Sr. said on Wednesday night following his victory.
“I’m so proud of him. He just sucked it up and endured and he overcomes.”
His mother Sheryl Phillips added, “That’s our baby and we’re just so happy that he made it through.”
“He’s got to have reconstructive surgery on his kidney. That’s why he has a stint in him,” his dad said.
“He’s had a surgery since he started American Idol already to get through. That’s why they put the stint in him [so they] could keep his kidney functioning good. Physically he’s in good shape. He said it’s painful wearing the stint. That’s why you see him moving like an old man. He can’t move. I can’t wait until he has his surgery and he recovered and ya’ll see him 100%.”
