Sam Smith’s built his career so far on his broken heart, but his unrequited feelings were never ever going to be returned because his “love” is straight. Sooooo all those loves songs for “In The Lonely Hour” were written about a straight male who Smith had feelings for. “It’s really tough to explain. But no, he’s not gay,” Smith revealed to The Sun. “I know he loved me, too, but not in that way.” Sam did not reveal the friends name but did say he told him about the albums release…”it gave me a lot of closure actually. It put a book end at the end of the record. It was amazing, I’m so happy I did it. What I wrote the songs about doesn’t affect me anymore.”
So the singles “Stay With Me” and “Leave Your Lover” weren’t written about a lover, but a love. Hmmmmmm
