Saturday Night Live - Season 39

Just yesterday it was revealed that a group of talented black comediennes secretly auditioned for a spot on the “SNL” cast…you know after cast member, Jay Pharaoh pointed out the lack of diversity on the show. Well the public controversy lit a fire under Lorne Michaels who allegedly put on a secret audition for a select group of female black comediennes. And an NBC rep confirmed the news and added that “SNL” is looking to cast one female cast member and plan to hire her within weeks…most likely before Seth Meyers departs in January.

The NYTimes is reporting that a special audition for seven or eight finalists will be held Monday on the “SNL” stage in Manhattan. Hmmm, I wonder who will get the spot? The last black female cast member was biracial, Maya Rudolph (which I adore!). “SNL” even poked fun at themselves when they had Scandal star Kerry Washington on…they wanted her to play Oprah, Michelle Obama and Beyonce all in one skit!

According to TMZ, one of the the ladies who participated at the secret auction last week at the Groundings Theatre in L.A. wasn’t sure if the audition was all a publicity stunt. She says Lorne Michaels was not there and she felt as if it was a dog and pony show…just to quiet SNL critics.

But it looks like they really are looking for a new cast member.
