Last week we finally heard Rihanna’s ANTI and rumor has it the leak was Tidal’s fault. According to Grace Kim, TIDAL’s director of Marketing told SPIN magazine the release was a system error.”When we started this campaign, we expected this to take a week. 1.4 million in not 24 hours but 15 hours. That’s a really big deal for us.” She was asked if the leak hurt the release of ANTI, “Look, we know what happened here, in the sense that unfortunately we still rely on systems, and there was a system error. But I don’t think it hurt it at all.”
In an update to the article with Kim, she says the error was not TIDAL’s fault. In regards to TIDAL’s “systems error,” Kim is “referring to a system error caused by Universal Music Group. The error was not something TIDAL caused.” TIDAL passed the blame to Universal, which is a distribution partner of Roc Nation, the label on which ANTI was released.
And there was a question if Rihanna’s sales on Tidal will not be counted on Billboard or Nielson’s charts. “Billboard and Nielsen are counting ANTI’s sales on TIDAL towards their totals, [but] they aren’t counting the Samsung/Rihanna download code gift to fans. The 400k+ sales ofANTI via TIDAL will be counted by Billboard.”
