Stereotyping is rampant Hollywood! Even Scandal star Kerry Washington wasn’t immune to being typecast.”Before ‘Scandal,’ I was actually cast in two other pilots. Both went to series, but I was fired and recast,” Washington told Variety. “For both, it was because they wanted me to sound more ‘girlfriend,’ more like ‘hood,’ more ‘urban.’”

She also added that it’s not just racial stereotypes. “I’ve had friends of mine say like they’re tired of ‘gayface’ and I was like, ‘What’s gayface?’ They were like, ‘It’s the gay version of blackface, like come in and be more effeminate.”‘

I wonder what shows she’s talking about. I think people assume you want to play the same roll over and over again. Sure she starred in Save the Last Dance a more urban type movie, but that doesn’t mean that’s the kind of role she wants to play forever—its called acting for a reason you are supposed to play other people all the time. Charlize played the pretty girl role till she landed Monster and we saw a different side of her.
