When Jay Pharoah exited SNL in 2016 we were all a little shocked. After six seasons on the show the master impressionist was tired of being just that —only an impressionist and he was ready to move on. “You go where you’re appreciated,” Jay said in an interview with NY Radio station Hot 97.1. The comedian alluded that his former castmates commented he was being underused and would often be pigeonholed in a role like Jay Z or Will Smith. “They put people into boxes [on SNL].Whatever they want you to do, they expect you to do. I’m fiery, too… I’m not a yes n–ga.”
Jay almost lost his job when he went public with the need to hire a more diverse cast!
