Jennifer Lopez has a lot going on right now including a new TV comedy show about a young Latina that she will be producing and a new movie!

MTV is looking to Jennifer Lopez for laughs and Latino viewers.

The younger skewing network has ordered a half-hour comedy script from the singer-producer. The project centers on Lina Molina, a recent NYU grad who, because of a dire economy and grim job prospects, is forced to return home to suburban Texas to her eccentric Mexican family.

Grace Parra (Work It, Glory Daze, Jonas) is on board to write, with Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions partner Simon Fields and manager Benny Medina joining her as executive producers. Brent Haynes, the network’s senior vice president of comedy and animation and an integral part of the project, will serve as MTV’s executive on the potential series.

The news comes as Nuyorican continues to expand its TV footprint. The shingle has projects at truTV (South Beach Tow), Spike TV (Big Easy Justice) and Fox (a sibling dramedy with Ugly Betty showrunner Silvio Horta).

MTV, too, has been busy growing its scripted portfolio, which includes Teen Wolf, animated reboot Beavis & Butt-head and critical darling Awkward.

Lopez and Nuyorican are repped by UTA and attorneys Bob Wallerstein and Ryan Nord at Hirsch Wallerstein; Parra is repped by UTA and Mosaic.

Jennifer may also helm the film version of, Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?
