Last night Katie Holmes was awarded the 2011 MaxMara Face of the Future Award during the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills and of course she thanked her husband, Tom Cruise and her parents who were in the audience.
“There have been so many women who inspired me. Watching their performances over and over —the greats: Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn, Ingrid Bergman, Sophia Loren, Liza Minnelli, Rita Moreno, Jodie Foster, Diane Keaton, Holly Hunter, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Annette Bening. Powerful, unforgettable work. They set an example of excellence through what feels like effortless performances. Through their examples of hard work, we’ve all been inspired. Creating new opportunities, telling fearless stories, setting new standards. Making real emotional impact. These are the challenges and privileges of our community and reflected in the work of so many strong women in this room,†Katie said.
“My eternal gratitude is bestowed upon my parents, who are here tonight. When I told them at the age of 16, sitting at our kitchen table that I wanted to be an actress and go to Hollywood, they gave me a big hug and said, ‘We support you. But you have to give it your all.’ And they supported me from that day, and that has always meant the world to me. And as I dream, I look to the future.â€
Katie added that she’s proud to be a woman in Hollywood, so she can share the stories of others. And it wouldn’t be an acceptance speech if she didn’t give a nod to her famous hubby!
“And lastly, I thank my husband whose commitment to his work and his family inspires me daily.â€
Katie recently told Access Hollywood that Tom Cruise is a good singer…
“[Tom] is such an amazing performer. The voice is incredible.â€
Katie, 32, also revealed that her talented spouse often breaks into song around the house (“Risky Business,†anyone?)!
“Yes, we have music in our house and it’s amazing.â€
