Now that American Idol might be back on the table (NBC might reboot the singing competition) we are getting a behind the scenes look at American Idol courtesy of Mike Darnell, Fox’s president of alternative programming. And did you know that Jennifer Lopez almost did not sign up for the competition show that re-ignited her career.
Jennifer Lopez’s contract negotiations were a nightmare
“You could sense she wanted to do it,” Darnell told Andy Cohen at the TV Academy Wednesday during a Q&A, “but it was a nightmare. Her agents, they just didn’t want her to do it: ‘It’s going to ruin your movie career.'” So Darnell did whatever he could to get heron board and he “fed her a load of bullsh–t” like endorsements and music opportunities. “Your singing career is going to be on fire again! And goddamn if it didn’t come true.” Darnell says Jennifer was “the most professional, wonderful person I’ve worked with in the business.” After she was hired he claims he “got a lot of calls from people saying she was a diva.”
We’ve only ever heard that Jennifer was professional—-Mariah and Nicki are another story.
