Lance Armstrong straight out admitted to doping to Oprah in the first minute of the interview for Oprah’s Next Chapter. Oprah asks… “Did you ever used banned substances to enhance your performance?” Lance says “Yes.” Armstrong tells Oprah he does not have a good answer for why he lied all these years, “I don’t know that I have a great answer. I will start now by saying this is too late … I view this situation as one big lie that I repeated a lot of times … I am a flawed character.” He alluded to others doping, but did admit it occurred in their culture. What kinds of performance drugs was he doing… “My cocktail so to speak was EPO (erythropoietin), transfusions and testosterone,” Armstrong said. “I didn’t invent the [doping] culture, but I did nothing to stop the culture … and I am sorry for that.” He also adds he stopped doping in 2005.
Armstrong admits what eventually did him in was when the UCI began its ” biological passport,” which tracks drugs over a period of time, not just before a race. But he mains he stopped doping in 2005.
What did you think of his admission to doping after over a decade of denials?
