Pepsi decided to pull their Kendall Jenner commercial after a huge backlash calling the ad insensitive. The huge soda brand defended their stance at first saying, “This is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony, and we think that’s an important message to convey.”
The ad show Kendall at a photo shoot before she feels compelled to join a protest right in front of her. She later marches with a crowd of young protesters before grabbing a Pepsi can and handing it to a police officer.
But Pepsi soon relented and admitted their mistakes. “Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding,” the company said in a statement on Wednesday. “Clearly, we missed the mark, and we apologize. We did not intend to make light of any serious issue. We are pulling the content and halting any further rollout. We also apologize for putting Kendall Jenner in this position.”
Kendall is getting a lot of hate here and I feel like she might need some defending—this is 99% Pepsi’s fault. I still love their product, but they tries to use a social media star to ramp up their message that fell flat in our strained political and racial climate.
