It might be before your time, but the actress/singer Vanessa Williams was once crowned Miss Amaerica, before being stripped of the title after a nude photos scandal. Well that was all water under the bridge when the de-crowned 1984 Miss America was welcomed back to the pageant. And she was given an apology over the handling of the situation.
“I have been a close friend to this beautiful and talented lady for 32 years,” Current Miss America CEO Sam Haskell told Vanessa. “You have lived your life in grace and dignity, and never was it more evident than during the events of 1984 when you resigned. Though none of us currently in the organization were involved then, on behalf of today’s organization, I want to apologize to you and to your mother, Miss Helen Williams. I want to apologize for anything that was said or done that made you feel any less than the Miss America you are and the Miss America you always will be.”
Vanessa tearfully accepted. “I did the best that I could (during) my reign as Miss America from 1983 to 1984. I love you. I love the girls and I am so honored to be back.”
What do you think about the apology? Should they have said sorry or were they correct in taking her crown?
