Its that time of the year when everything gets a little darker and moodier and I’m totally feeling it. Now that its Fall and Halloween is gone, its time to put down your Pumpkin Spice Latte and pick up a rich darker lipstick color to compliment the 2019 version of the ’90s grunge look. If you haven’t noticed the ’90s are back and in full force.
Darker lips have always been on my radar since I grew to love makeup during the ’90s (yes I’m aging myself). I was that teen with either super dark lips or the dreaded super dark lip liner with a super light color on the lips and absolutely no blending. Hey, don’t fault me it was the look at the time. But even that look has made a comeback. I’ve even seen Kim Kardashian do a variation of that look.
Ok sure, we are all still sad that summer is over, but who else couldn’t wait until it was time to get cozy and pull out your favorite jacket—-this girl right here! And now that we changed the clock for daylight savings we just have to get over it. So… put away your summer palettes and break out your fall and winter ones and test out all those smokey eyes and vampy lip combos.
Fall colors coincide not only with the seasonal color changes but also with daylight saving hence the darker hued colors like a true darker red, vampy purples, deep burgundy (mix of red and brown) and of course brown lip colors.
What is THE Darker Lipstick Color of 2019?
For Fall 2019 we have seen a ton of vampy purples taking over the season, but burgundy and browns also pop up this season.
How to Wear Darker Lipstick Colors For Your Skintone
Obviously not every lipstick will match every skin tone. But there are colors for everybody. According to beauty brand L’Oreal, If you have pale skin opt for berry colors.
If you have cool undertones, opt for a lipstick that has a blue base, like a dark berry hue. On the other hand, if you have warm undertones, go for something that has a yellow base to it. Overall, follow this rule: Stick to lipsticks that are in the berry family, like raspberry or blackberry. Avoid any shades that have too much brown in them because they could make your complexion look muddy—not vampy.
If you have a medium complexion go more for reddish browns.
Those with light to medium-tan skin tones usually have neutral or warm undertones. If this is you, it means you have more of a variety to choose from when it comes to dark lipstick, with reddish browns and plums being the most flattering.
And if your complexion is darker go for darker purples.
For those who have darker skin tones, opt for deep purples and blue-based reds. Select deep lip colors like purple and dark chocolate brown.

Burgundy Hued Darker Lipsticks
Burgundy and brown colors are my all-time Fall favorite colors since they are true fall hued—soft and rich browns. It was during this time in the season that I fell in love with makeup.
