Scotty McCreery won American Idol and he feels “on top of the world right now,” as he should! EW spoke to Scotty just moments after winning and he dished on how he feels wining the 10th season of American Idol, Lauren Alaina ( who may be his girlfriend) and Tim McGraw.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So how does it feel to win?
SCOTTY McCREERY: This feels absolutely amazing. I mean, I’m on top of the world right now. It’s just a moment I’ll never forget.Did you ever allow yourself to think about the fact that you could win at any point this season?
Yeah, you know, those thoughts, they cross your mind, and the farther along you get in the process, the more they come through. But you’ve got to control that. You’ve got to focus on what’s ahead and focus on the song you’re singing that week. Luckily, it’s gotten me here.
Talk a little bit about your friendship with Lauren. You seem really tight with each other.
Yeah. I met her the first day of Hollywood week, so we’ve been really close. She’s been my schoolmate for the last couple of months. We’ve had a lot of fun together. We’re really close friends. We still are. She’s a wonderful young lady.
She planted a lot of kisses on you tonight.
[Smiles] Yeah, you know, she told me she was going to do that before the show, if it happened [that I won]. And she stays true to her word, doesn’t she?
Tim McGraw — what was it like working with him?
Tim McGraw, he is such a genuine nice guy. In rehearsals, he was helping me out. He was like my country dad. He just helping me along the way. It was just so nice to be able to share the stage with him. He’s such a living legend. It was really great.
So now that the show is over, what are you most looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to getting out there on tour with American Idol Live tour, and I’m really looking forward to getting my album out there, recording some songs, and getting my music out to the fans quick as possible.
Do you think you’d go back to school?
I’m in school right now! I’ve got a test to take on Friday for English. I’m still 17. Still a high school student.
