11 Hair Hacks That Will Save You Time In The Morning

We all need to rush out the door sometimes, so I’ve compiled a list of hair hacks every woman should know. Some women love to glam up, while others love their basic ponytail, but I’m stationed somewhere in the middle. While I love freshly styled hair, I do not love my almost hour styling time. Plus my arms get tired and while I do catch up on some new youtube videos, its kind of boring and repetitive. I know some people wash their hair every day, but that’s just not me. I have long hair that I blow dry straight ( I’m not in love with my curls right now), but I have a system to keep my hair fresh in between hair washes. I’ve compiled a list of 11 hair hacks to extend your blowout and get you through the week!

The Shower Cap Hack

If you want your blowout or curls or whatever the style you have to invest in a shower cap. Growing up I used to but those cheap shower caps that came three in a pack for a few bucks ( and side note those are still great when you need a cap for a deep hair mask), but I’ve since upgraded! My shower cap now costs between $10 to 15. The cap is now thicker more durable quality with a terry cloth lining! Although not 100%  (I still get a little moisture on my hairline), but it keeps my hair mostly dry for a few extra days. I purchased the Drybar’s The Morning After Shower Cap, $16 a few years ago and I loved it. But I have since found a cheaper version on Amazon.

Dry Shampoo At Night

Do not wait for your hair to get greasy to use dry shampoo. For those weeks when you need a day or a few before your next wash you should avoid getting greasy in the first place. You should use dry shampoo the at night. Just lightly spray roots and rub or brush as usual to disperse product and your hair won’t have time to get greasy. Use only as needed! And bonus…a little more volume!

Tip: Go easy on hair products—they are a magnet for dirt!

The Top Knot Hair Hack!

The topknot should definitely be a lazy day standby. We all have those days when we just don’t want to do our hair and this is the go-to style for something quick and easy.

Step 1: Apply a little dry shampoo or texturing stray to roots and lengths for a little extra grit for hold!

Step 2:  Then brush hair up to the top of your head and when securing with a hair band pull hair through once and when pulling through the hair the second time do not pull hair out all the way—leave it in a loop!

Step 3: Wrap the loose hair around the bun. Pin in place!

Step 4: You can use gel or a pomade to smooth out hair. Finish with hairspray for flyaways.

Curl Your Hair For Fun

If you already have curly or wavy hair then you are set, but if not then pull out your trusty curling iron and curl your hair. You can curl your hair the day after a hair wash and then use the curls for other hairstyles like a pretty ponytail, a half updo or a messy bun. Its easier to do since hair is a little dirtier on day 2 and 3 and will give hair a great texture to extend your do for another day! Check out Kendall Jenner’s pretty curls which would be a perfect base for a messy topknot! Check out the simple tutorial from The Teacher Diva.

Invest In Pretty Hairpins

Sincerely Jules for scünci Collection

Hairpins can elevate any look from basic to bold, taking your look to next level chic! Jules from Sincerely Jules just released a beautiful collection of hairpins and accessories with hair brand scrunci. The pins and clips will take your hair look to the next level and give you an elegant appearance at the same time. You can purchase Jules’ hair accessories at Target!

Use a Hair Donut

So you know how to do the top knot, but you want something a little more sturdy then pick up a hair donut (check out H&M or Forever 21 they always seem to have them). You can get a big one or a small one and put in in your hair in like two seconds. This will give you a perfect bun every time. it’s a little more sophisticated than the fun topknot. I would keep it low in the back for a more professional setting and high on the head for a night out!

Sleep On A Satin or Silk Pillowcase

Slip Pillowcase

Sleeping on a silk ( or satin pillowcase) will keep your hair from frizzing up at night. Cotton pillowcases absorb moisture from your hair and then the friction of your head on the pillow cause frizzy hair!

The Slip 100% silk pillowcase costs $ 85,  but you can get a cheaper satin version for about $15.

Try A Cool Headbands/Scarfs

If you work in corporate you may not get away with wearing a cute scarf to work, but if you work in a creative office or are a student, you can totally wear a scarf on your head a ton of different ways.

Tip: don’t want to wear a full scarf—try one just on your ponytail like this one above.

Put Up Hair At Night

Ladies with curly hair put their hair up at night in a pineapple hairstyle. What’s a pineapple you ask? It’s when ladies pile their curls in a loose bun on the top of their heads with a soft hair tie in an attempt to keep curls fresh.  A hair scarf is then wrapped around your head and then curls to keep in place. But if you have straight hair then check the next tip.

Hair Wrap Hack (Latinas call it a ‘dobbie’)

Rihanna wrap hair hack

Women have been extending their do’s for years with a hair wrap. Its the practice of wrapping hair tightly to the head and securing it with bobby pins or clips to keep hair straight while sleeping. Usually done for straight styles. Unwrap hair in the morning for smooth hair!

When Rihanna hopped on the red carpet with a hair wrap hairstyle our jaws dropped. How could she wear a nighttime hairstyle out on the street? But in Rihanna fashion, she not only got away with it but made it socially cool to wear outside.

Option: Purchase a satin hair cap to keep hair further in place. But your partner may not appreciate the homely look! Ohhhh well!

Learn to Braid

OK, braiding isn’t the easiest thing to learn, but if you already have the skill you are golden. You can braid day three hair into cute braids in a bun or half up hairstyle. One of my favorite braids are milkmaid braid that creates a beautiful halo effect around your head, but a traditional simple braid will also keep your hair gathered and secure.
